Changes to our Music Video

After collecting our audience feedback from the draft of our music video, we decided to make a few alterations based on the comments they made. We noticed that not a lot happened in the opening of our music video and in order to prevent people from getting bored, we could cut down some of the shots in order to speed up the pace of the video however keeping the contrast between the still frames and the fast moving shots of the lights. We found that this then gave us some extra time at the end so that we could develop the story without giving away the entire plot and keeping a sense of mystery.

There was also an interesting comment about the title sequence and making it more interesting. This inspired to use an effect we had seen in Flo Ridas music video for Wild Ones:

We found this technique effective and decided to use it for our title sequence. After adding it to our music video, and editing it so that it fit in with the music, we decided to use it throughout our video. We felt that this would make it more interesting and look more professional. This technique allowed us to bring the audience’s attention to certain lyrics and break up the shots. It was also a way of connect two different shots and making it less ‘boring’.

There were also a lot of positive comments on some of the editing techniques used for example the jump cuts, rewind and fast-forward. We continued to use these throughout the music video as well as expanding on the story with the female character continuing to get ready.

Digipak Photography

In preparation for our digipak, we went out and took a variety of images which we could potentially use. From our research, we found that location is an important factor and can be used to help reinforce the genre of the music video. Because of this, we decided to take photographs of the Canary Wharf landscape illuminated by the lights at night. We decided this was appropriate because it set an urban atmosphere, relevant for our genre. We chose this setting because it is easily recognizable and can be associated with business and wealth which can be incorporated into our main theme of materialism.

We experimented with a variety of shots and angles to find a perfect landscape. We found the most effective landscapes were those where you could see the bank and were overlooking the river with the reflection of the lights. We also decided to incorporate the key symbol of lights. We achieved this by playing with a variety of effects and distorting the illuminated skyline. We found that a successful technique was to adjust the focuses levels on the camera. This made it seem more intriguing and mysterious and may help to capture our audience.

We then decided that in order to make our digipak more interesting and appealing, we would use images of our female character.  We took pictures of her in a variety of positions draped in fairy lights. We were influence by the lyrics of the song and decided that it would be more interesting if we tried to incorporate all aspects of our music video into the digipak. We were able to be quite creative when capturing shots and found that the most impressive shots were those that were the most unexpected. We decided this would be suitable because Kanye West has a vast interest in Art and his music videos often have an artistic flare.
